Common Gut Problems

As our daily lives become increasingly focused on moving at a fast pace, it often feels as if our gut cannot keep up. Slow and sluggish digestion can leave you feeling bloated, full, and uncomfortable to say the least! On the opposite side of that is if your digestion feels like it’s overcompensating, moving too fast for you to keep up as you quickly sprint to the bathroom during and after meals.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, constipation, gas, bloating and acid reflux are among the most common gut issues that individuals deal with on a daily basis. In this article we will discuss some of the causes of gut issues, the truth behind that bothersome bloating, and a potential solution to your tummy troubles.

Causes of Gut Distress

The gut and brain are very well connected, almost as if you have a second brain hidden inside of your abdomen. If you’ve ever felt stressed and experienced stomach cramps or frequent trips to the bathroom, this is your brain’s “fight or flight” response kicking in, which in turn signals hormones to be released and your stomach to react.

Unfortunately due to high demand jobs, worrying tendencies, societal pressures and day-to-day tension, our gut ends up being the place that we store all of the stresses from our daily lives.

There is also the issue of certain foods that we eat which can affect our gut biome, causing feelings of discomfort and in turn creating anxiety around meal times. So what is the answer? Of course we always recommend consulting your physician when it comes to gut health, but we also wanted to share a list of routines to help create a little more calmness within your insides… literally!

Breathe in… Breathe out… We’ve got you covered

  1. Exercise - Regular movement can help reduce stress and regulate your bowels.
  2. Breathe - If you are feeling anxious and your stomach starts to tighten, stop what you are doing and take three deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Play around with breathing in for a count of seven, holding your breath for a second at the top, and then out for a count of seven. Hopefully you feel those tummy knots loosening!
  3. Slow down when you eat - The process of digestion begins before you even start chewing your food as your salivary glands are activated when you look at your tasty meal. At mealtimes try taking three deep breaths before you eat and eat slowly. Eating at a slower pace allows your digestive system to break down and absorb the nutrients in your food. Chewing more also means that you produce more saliva, which allows food to pass smoothly through your intestines.
  4. Drink lots of water - your body uses water during digestion and dehydration can lead to stomach pain, cramps and constipation.
  5. Try lifeRegen’s GI Balance - lifeRegen’s GI Balance will help to restore the gut lining, calm the stomach, reduce bloating and cultivate a healthier digestive system.

By making a few simple changes in your daily routine you have the power to strengthen your gut health and feel physically and mentally energized. Make small adjustments each day and your body will be grateful for it!
